Never in a million years would I ever have guessed, I, Sarah Bowmar, would be so passionate about newborn, infant, and toddler sleep. It truly goes to show you that passions can arise at any point in life and I really feel like they shouldn’t be ignored.
A little background on me, I had my daughter Oakley when I was 31. I am 6 days past my due date with our son and they will be 19 months apart. My husband and I are body builders, business owners, and avid outdoorsman. We understand the importance of sleep for recovery, mental clarity, and overall daily function. When I say sleep is a passion, I truly mean it. I absolutely love curling up in bed and getting restful sleep, we even have a sleep supplement through our company based on years of research and formulation for the best night’s sleep!
Additionally, I am a certified fitness nutrition specialist, certified personal trainer, and a prenatal and postpartum certified personal trainer as well. I deeply understand the interconnectivity between nutrition, sleep, and recovery. Once I had my daughter, I dove, hard, into learning as much as I could about newborn, infant, and toddler sleep. I took multiple courses from multiple different people with various schools of thought to find what would fit our family best.
Fast forward to about six months ago but I was introduced to the idea of becoming a certified sleep consultant. I put the idea off because I was pregnant, had a toddler, and busy as could be with everything else we have going on. Josh, my husband, encouraged me to do a little more thinking into it as he knew how passionate I was about the topic and idea. I reached out to the instructor and asked how long the self-guided 250 hour certification would take. She said that it was meant to be a two year program but she had had women dedicate 3 hours a day, every day, for several months to get it done within a much shorter window. I decided to go for it knowing I could work at my own page. My goal was to finish the certification prior to my delivery date of February 28, 2022. Ironically, I received my certification several days before my due date. Luckily I was already working on my website, insurance, logos, branding, etc to ensure that when I was honored with the final passing assignment, I could hit the ground running.
I am officially a Baby Led Sleep and Well Being Specialist and I cannot wait to bring all the amazing content to the world that I have planned. I am starting slow over on my Instagram @skysleepcourses and my website will have 1 on 1 consultations, ebooks, webinars, etc. The school of thought behind this certification is that it is BABY LED, hence the name. It is completely free of any cry it out, “self soothing” methods. It truly encourages the parent-child attachment relationship FIRST and then focuses on sleep. I have a list of books that I have either read, were recommended to me, and/or are on my list next to read if you are interested.
I also have discovered my passion for parenting runs much deeper than just sleep. I am also finishing up a course on Gentle Discipline, Potty Learning, and a Montessori Diploma for ages 0-3. I will more than likely continue with the Montessori Diplomas for the subsequent age groups once I finish this one! It truly is amazing how passions can form and evolve, even when you are almost in your mid-30s. I don’t know where I see all of these courses, certifications, and diplomas taking me, but I can ensure I will be sharing the most helpful content on the subject matters!
Thank you for the support in this new venture and please, leave me any questions or comments below!
Your work ethic is truly inspiring! I just told my husband recently(we have a son who will be 2 in June) I NEVER thought I’d be so passionate about the way I parent. SO much has changed in the way I “thought” I would be and how I am. I LOVE the Montessori way of learning and have adapted many MANY things from it! I am looking forward to your content!
Congratulations Sara! You are , without a doubt, a A+ student. Where did you find the online courses that you completed?
I will share once my formal website is live!
This is amazing, so excited for you! I am super excited to see what you will be sharing about baby sleep, gentle discipline, and potty learning.. the Montessori learning too!! All of the things!
I cannot wait to read more on this. We did a sleep consultant but I couldnt let him cry for 10 min as instructed. He is a great sleeper now at night but still only sleeps for 45 min at a time for naps. I also can’t wait for monisore stuff. I have always been interested and since he’s only 6 months I can get a bunch of ideas as he can reach and play
10 minutes or crying will not psychologically hurt your child. It’s not like your are leaving him in there for an hour+
You can choose to believe what you want to believe and you are free to parent how you want to parent. But do not come on my blog and tell other parents and mothers that they should leave their children to cry. It’s triggering for a lot of women for a multitude of reasons. We aren’t judging you the way you parent so don’t judge us. Thanks!
