Sourdough Maple Donuts

I have never made true donuts before (where you fry them), so this was quite fun to do with my daughter! I found a recipe on Pinterest and modified it slightly based on what I had available! I definitely could have made them thicker when I cut them out but that was my only real feedback to myself!

Dough Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2/3 cup sourdough discard
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • Oil to fry: 3 quarts with high smoke point

Glaze Ingredients

  • 2 TBSP butter
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 TBSP cream

Directions

  • In a stand mixer, cream sugar and butter together. Add milk, discard, salt, and eggs. Add flower slowly
  • Cover and let dough rise 4-6 hours until almost double
  • Mix all glaze ingredients together before rolling out dough
  • Lightly flour the counter and roll about 1/4 inch thick. Cut with a donut cutter
  • Heat the oil and fry the donuts half dozen at a time
  • Transfer to cooling rack (with paper towel underneath)
  • While still warm. dip in glaze
