I have never made true donuts before (where you fry them), so this was quite fun to do with my daughter! I found a recipe on Pinterest and modified it slightly based on what I had available! I definitely could have made them thicker when I cut them out but that was my only real feedback to myself!
Dough Ingredients
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup milk
- 2/3 cup sourdough discard
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- Oil to fry: 3 quarts with high smoke point
Glaze Ingredients
- 2 TBSP butter
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 TBSP cream
Directions
- In a stand mixer, cream sugar and butter together. Add milk, discard, salt, and eggs. Add flower slowly
- Cover and let dough rise 4-6 hours until almost double
- Mix all glaze ingredients together before rolling out dough
- Lightly flour the counter and roll about 1/4 inch thick. Cut with a donut cutter
- Heat the oil and fry the donuts half dozen at a time
- Transfer to cooling rack (with paper towel underneath)
