One of my favorite parts of the end of summer is our pear tree at our Missouri farm dropping pears for me to use! My friend @jazzythings created this recipe using apples and I think you would be the talk of any holiday party if you brought these with you!
Homemade Shortbread:
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 1/4 cup sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup flour
Pear Filling:
- 3 pears- thinly sliced
- 2 TBSP flour
- 1 TBSP sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Streusel Topping:
- 2/3 cup old fashioned oats
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/3 cup butter
Salted Caramel:
- 1/2 cup caramel
- 1 tsp salt
Directions:
- Combine all shortbread ingredients and press into 8×8 pan lined with parchment paper
- Bake at 325 for 15 minutes then remove from oven
- While shortbread is baking, add pears to bowl and toss with filling ingredients
- In a separate bowl, add all streusel ingredients. Use your hands to mix in the butter so it’s clumpy
- Spread pears over prepared crust
- Sprinkle streusel evenly over pears and press down gently into the pears
- Put back in oven and bake at 350 for 30 minutes
- When ready to serve, combine caramel topping with salt and drizzle over bars (they will slice best if refrigerated for a couple hours)
- Store in refrigerator and serve warm or cold
